The 1 1/2 hour tour will visit two pre-Prohibition breweries, including lagering cellars deep below Over-the-Rhine, before returning to Findlay Market. Along the way you'll learn how Cincinnati was one of the major brewing centers in the country, how beer was vital to the development of Over-the-Rhine, and the architectural impact of the breweries on the neighborhood.
Participants will start and end at historic Findlay Market in the Over-the-Rhine Biergarten. We'll see historic pre-Prohibition breweries such as the original Christian Moerlein complex, once one of the largest in the country. We'll visit inside the Sohn/Clyffside brewery, one of the most stellar examples of brewery architecture in the city, and see the ornate high-bay brewing spaces inside before traveling deep under the Jackson brewery to the massive lagering cellars in the Clifton hillside. Walking back to Findlay Market and the Biergarten for a complimentary beer, we'll hear how Over-the-Rhine is finally recovering from The Great Mistake of Prohbition.
